About RobG Photography – Portrait and Artistic Photography

Being behind a camera is my happy place.

So what's this guy's deal with photography?

At 16 I got my first 35mm film SLR (a Praktica MTL5). It was heavy and clunky, nothing on it was automatic and I loved it. I played about in a darkroom with chemicals and enlargers making prints for hours. I was hooked.

Since then I've changed the way I take photographs (a big plus of digital being that your hands don't smell funny from the developing fluid) and worked at understanding as much as I can about lighting styles and photography techniques.

None of that makes me different to a lot of other photographers.

What does make me different is that I never forget the people in front of the camera. I can make anyone feel comfortable having their photograph taken, and in one memorable case get over 100 wedding guests to do jazz hands at the same time.

The portrait, the event, the wedding, the performance, the studio session isn't about me. It's all about making you look great.

What will I get out of it?

Hopefully a bit of fun. I want whoever is in front of the camera to feel happy and relaxed, it makes for much better photographs. It never works when someone says smile (or the dreaded 'say cheese') but it does work if my subjects are genuinely enjoying themselves. Every smile in the portraits I take is genuine.

There will be jokes, a bit of messing around, serious coffee and occasional chocolate biscuits.

A little while after the shoot you'll receive the best pictures from the day, subtly edited and ready for printing or uploading, whichever you prefer.
